Land and Life of Jesus – Feb 29 to Mar 10 2012 in Israel (#120202)
This is a Land-Only Program, with participants responsible for their own air and transfers. Pre-trip arrangements can be made for anyone who plans to arrive prior to Feb 29. Rooms at the same hotel the group will be using will cost $176 per room per night for double occupancy, including breakfast. Single occupancy rooms will cost $155 per night. If there are multiple participants arriving at similar times, group transfers can be arranged after we know arrival times for all participants.
Wednesday, February 29, 2012 – Program begins
The Program begins with dinner and overnight at our hotel in Tel Aviv, across from the Mediterranean beach. Overnight: Tel Aviv.
Thursday, March 1, 2012 – Four Conflicts of Jesus’ Ministry
Highlighting four example sites, this study focuses on four key conflicts in the background of Jesus’ public ministry. (Sites: Caesarea Maritima, Mt. Carmel, Zippori, Nazareth). Overnight: Sea of Galilee.
Friday, March 2, 2012 – Characteristics of the Disciples
Using the four gospel accounts, we will investigate the hints on the background, education and theology of the Disciples. (Sites: Capernaum, Boat on Sea, Mt. Beatitudes, Chorazin, Mt. Arbel). Overnight: Sea of Galilee.
Saturday, March 3, 2012 – Private Teaching of the Disciples (Mashalim and Remezim)
Based on the five major sermons in the Gospel according to Matthew, our focus will be on the common teaching style of the ancient rabbis. (Sites: Katzrin – reconstructed Talmudic Village, Road to Damascus view at Quneitra, Caesarea Philippi, Tel Dan. Overnight: Sea of Galilee.
Sunday, March 4, 2012 – The Perean Ministry
Luke’s “Special Section” (10-19) includes a longer narrative of Jesus’ walk through Perea, and some of the toughest teachings of the Savior. Today we will look closely at these. We will arrive in time to use the spa at our Dead Sea Hotel! (Sites include: Beth Shean excavations, Qumran, Dead Sea Spa). Overnight: Dead Sea area.
Monday, March 5, 2012 – The Wilderness Places
From the desert storm of Habakkuk, to the salt covenant of David, various Biblical wilderness themes will be highlighted, with a special view toward the Patriarchal narratives and their impact on Jesus. (Sites include: Masada, view of Ein Gedi, Jericho, View of Jerusalem from atop Olivet). Overnight: Jerusalem.
Tuesday, March 6, 2012- Setting of the Birth of Jesus; Psalm 125:2
We will investigate what the Biblical accounts tell us of Jesus’ birth, based on both the Matthew and Luke accounts. (Sites include: Bethlehem, Shepherd’s Field, Herodion, View of Jerusalem from Haas Promenade). Overnight: Jerusalem.
Wednesday, March 7, 2012- Temple Troubles and Messianic Expectations
Understanding the expectations will explain why there always seemed to be trouble when Jesus was in Jerusalem. The Hallel Psalms, recited by the Biblical Pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem, will be especially relevant when considered as we sit on the ancient steps that led to the Temple. (Sites: Gethsemane, House of Caiaphas, the Last Supper Room, walk through the Jewish Quarter, Western Wall, South Wall excavations). Overnight: Jerusalem.
Thursday, March 8, 2012- Journey to Calvary
The issues involved in the arrest, trial and conviction of Jesus will be our subject as we journey through the “salvation geography” of Jerusalem in the Gospel According to John. We will begin our day with an early departure from the hotel to walk up on the ancient Temple Mount (Sites: Temple Mount, Pool of Bethesda, Via Dolorosa, Holy Sepulchre, Garden Tomb with communion). Overnight: Jerusalem.
Friday, March 9, 2012 – Israel: A Living People
This morning we will be taken by our Jewish guide to see the “not to be missed” Yad Vashem (Memorial for the Holocaust), followed by a visit to see the Model of the City of Jerusalem from the 2nd Temple period, and some of the world class exhibitions at the newly renovated Israel Museum. Overnight: Jerusalem.
Saturday, March 10, 2012 – Free Day in Jerusalem!
After many days of travels, take some time to relax and/or enjoy the Old City. You will have the use of your hotel room during the day, so you can pack and shower/rest before checking out. The program officially ends with dinner. Arrangements can be made for participants who wish to stay overnight, or add additional days.
