This seven day intensive program in Israel for Clergy and Serious Students of the New Testament does not include travel time from your international airport to the place where the course is offered. Not all course participants arrive in Israel at the same time. The course officially begins with an introduction dinner and lecture the evening of day one, near the Mediterranean Sea. Our staff will arrange your individual travel package to arrive on day one, or even several days before if you need a rest and time of preparation! The itineraries are samples and individual sites may be amended for your group.
Day One: Pick up Registration Packet at hotel.
Welcome Dinner. Introductory Lecture: Survey of the Life of Jesus. Overnight: near the Mediterranean Sea.
Day Two: Four Conflicts of Jesus’ Ministry
Theme description: highlighting four example sites, this study focuses on four key conflicts in the background of Jesus’ public ministry. Sites: Caesarea Maritima, Megiddo, Nazareth, Sepphorus, Tiberias. Overnight: Tiberias.
Day Three: The Galilee Ministry of Jesus
Theme description: a careful look into the popular ministry of healing, teaching and modeling for the disciples at the Sea of Galilee, and in the withdrawals alone will be our central topic. Sites: Boat on Sea, Capernaum, Tabgha, Mt. of Beatitudes, Hammat Tiberias, Caesarea Philippi region, Chorazin. Overnight: Tiberias.
Day Four: The Perean Ministry of Jesus & The John the Baptist Connection
Theme description: we will address the issues of the Perean Ministry, with particular examination of Luke 10-19, the “special section” of this account. Sites: Jordan River, Beth Shean, Views of Perea, Jericho, view of Ein Gedi, Qumran, Masada. Overnight: Jerusalem.
Day Five: Setting of the Birth Narratives
Theme description: We will investigate what the Biblical accounts tell us of Jesus’ birth, based on both the Matthew and Luke accounts. Sites: Bethlehem, Shepherd’s Field, Herodion, Haas Promenade, Hinnom Valley, Scopus, and Seven Arches overlook. Overnight: Jerusalem.
Day Six: Jesus In Jerusalem, Messianic Expectations
Theme description: With a specific view of the history of “other Messiahs” we will discuss the expectations for the Messiah, and their relationship to the record of the preaching of Jesus. Sites: Holyland Hotel Model of the City from 66 CE, Gethsemane, Mt. Zion (Last Supper Room, St. Peter en Gallicantu), Western Wall, Old City walk. Overnight: Jerusalem
Day Seven: Jewish Questionings and Roman Trials of Jesus
Theme description: The issues involved in the arrest, trial and conviction of Jesus will be our subject as we journey through the “salvation geography” of Jerusalem in the Gospel According to John. Sites: Ancient Temple Mount and excavations, Pool of Bethesda, Via Dolorosa, Holy Sepulchre, Garden Tomb. Seminar ends with the Final Group Dinner.Some participants will leave us on the last evening. You are welcome to arrange with our staff an extended rest or study time for as long as you like. We will try to tailor that to meet your individual needs. A few days in Israel or perhaps a European city can help you take some time for personal needs or rest and reflection.
