This nine day intensive program in Greece for Clergy and Serious Students of the New Testament does not include travel time from your international airport to the place where the course is offered. Not all course participants arrive in Greece at the same time. The course officially begins with an introduction dinner and lecture the evening of day one, in Athens. Our staff will arrange your individual travel package to arrive on day one, or even several days before if you need a rest and time of preparation! The itineraries are samples and individual sites may be amended for your group.
Day One: Pick up Registration Packet at hotel.
Welcome Dinner. Introductory Lecture: St. Paul in Greece. Overnight: Athens.
Day Two: Introduction to St. Paul in Greece
Theme Description: Today we will examine how the Apostle Paul was a uniquely qualified Hebrew student who could make an appeal to both Jew and Gentile. Field Trip: Overview of Athens, Acropolis. Overnight: Athens.
Day Three: Paul’s Preaching in Athens
Theme Description: Today we will look at the characteristics of the ancient Athenians that Paul appealed to in his preaching at Mars Hill. Field Trip: Tour of Athens: Agora, Keriamakos. Overnight: Athens.
Day Four: Thessalonica and the Early Persecutions to the Faith
Theme Description: The images of the epistles, and the encouragement to the early community of faith at Thessalonica will be our focus today. Sites: Motorcoach trip to Thessaloniki, walking tour of Thessaloniki. Overnight: Thessaloniki.
Day Five: The First Christian Converts in Europe
Theme Description: From the beautiful harbor of Neapolis (modern Kavalla) to the archaeological remains of Philippi, we will trace the second (Acts 16:11- 17:1) and third mission (Acts 20:1-2) journey along the Via Egnatia. Sites: Drive along Via Egnatia; Appolonia, Amphipolis, Philippi, Neapolis (Kavalla). Overnight: Kavalla.
Day Six: The Berean Bible Students
Theme Description: Following the work of Paul to Berea (Acts 17) we will examine the chronology of his ministry, and main elements of several epistles that defined his preaching and writing ministry. Sites: Thessalonikian Museum, Verea (Berea). Overnight: Kalambaka.
Day Seven: The Pattern of Paul’s Ministry
Theme Description: After a visit to Meteora, we will return to Athens. We will look at both Acts and the Epistles, we will investigate the mode of ministry operation that is recorded of the early church mission teams. Sites: Meteora, Athens, a few hours in the afternoon free in Athens. Overnight: Athens.
Day Eight: Ministry in the Conflict of Culture
Theme Description: Paul’s message to Corinth clashed with many elements of the common culture of this upscale city. We will study Paul’s words and works in the “Corinthian clash”. Sites: Isthmus Canal, Corinth, Cenchrea. Overnight: Athens.
Day Nine: Free Day. Seminar ends with the Final Group Dinner.
Some participants will leave us on the last evening. You are welcome to arrange with our staff an extended rest or study time for as long as you like. We will try to tailor that to meet your individual needs. A few days in Greece, Israel or perhaps a European city can help you take some time for personal needs or rest and reflection.
